10 Days in Hawaii - Day 8

Excited for our trip to Maui, Jake and I woke up at 6am to get ready for the airport. We finished packing and were on our way. We were actually a little early, so we had the chance to meet our Turo host for breakfast at Scratch Kitchen where we had the most delicious breakfast! It blew us away! Everything was flavored perfectly and cooked flawlessly! You could tell that the chefs took great culinary care with their food. Jake got the pork belly benny, I got fruit and a waffle, and our new friend ordered the chicken and waffles. I wish I was the kind of person that took photos of my food because I wish you could've seen it!

Getting through security and boarding the plane was smooth in Honolulu, and after a bumpy 45-minute plane ride, we were in Maui! Imagining Maui I always expected some sort of sunny paradise with a heavenly smell, surfers boys and girls everywhere, and a lifted weight off our shoulders, but I may have set too high of expectations and painted a very different picture of what it could be in my head! In contrast to our Budget rental in Honolulu, it was a breeze getting into our Turo ride, which was waiting for us at the airport.

We had a minute before check-in so we had lunch at Miko’s Place and I felt that we struck gold! Actually, it seemed that a full meal would cost a gold coin, but we expected it in Maui. Garlic edamame was $8, a sushi roll with 6 pieces was $15 and chicken fried rice was $16. We found these items in a menu full of options. Options that included Filipino food, American food, etc. There was an endless amount of grub to choose from and it was all very good. Surprisingly, Jake didn't agree and felt the food was just a bit above mediocre! Despite his reaction, I left full and happy so it was a successful lunch. Next, we headed to our accommodations!

Looking at The Old Wailuku Inn online made it seem much grander and isolated than what we arrived to. It was a bit underwhelming and checking in was a bit bizarre with the new covid protocols. What didn't help was that I had travel brain! I could barely comprehend the lengthy email they sent me about the check-in process. Eventually, we got in and saw our room. We were greeted with a cool, air-conditioned room, a comfy bed, a fancy bathroom, and lovely amenities. They gifted us with a tote, complimentary waters, and masks.

Originally, we had thought we would have had time to make it to the beach the same day as arriving, but that proved to be too much because 30 minutes after being in the room, we napped. Hard. We ended up staying in the entire night, watching tv, and just enjoying each other’s company. It was our first day off the entire trip with nothing planned.

It was perfect.
